Norwegian Sky

Norwegian was originally ordered by Costa Cruises as Costa Olympia from the Bremer Vulkan shipyard in Germany, but she was completed in 1999 by the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany for the Norwegian Cruise Line under the name Norwegian Sky. Weighing in at 77,104 tons, holding 899 crew and 2,004 passengers. Recently this cruise now comes included with unlimited drinks. Overall this cruise was very clean, a little older needs a good renovation. The food was pretty good and enjoyable throughout the cruise. The customer service was excellent, from dining, to the front desk, to the entertainment/ onboard activities, and you can never forget your room attendants. I personally went to Nassau and the private island Great Stirrup Cay, but now you can also travel to Cuba.

This is a very basic cruise which in this case is not a bad thing. Since the ship only travels from 3-5 days, the boat is a little smaller and lacks some of the amenities that most boats have such as a water slide. Making up for what it lacks, the boat features a golf driving net, basketball, mini-golf, fitness center, and more which caters to those with an active lifestyle. All of these features make sense when you realize the ship was built in 1999. Rumors are that the ship will be getting a renovation soon which hopefully adds a water slide. The staff was on point in both the dining and customer service areas. At the Cagney’s Steakhouse, I experienced one of my favorite meals to date while cruising. With unlimited alcohol beverages being apart of every package now, this is a great ship for first-timers and adults.

Norwegian Getaway

Norwegian Getaway was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and was delivered January, 2014. At the time of its christening it was the world’s ninth largest cruise ship, weighing 145,655 tons, with a passenger capacity of 3,969 and a crew of 1,640. I personally went on the Eastern Caribbean, but it also does the Western Caribbean, as well as Russia and the Baltics. Overall this cruise was very clean, recently renovated when I traveled. The food was really good and enjoyable throughout the cruise. The customer service was excellent, from dining, to the front desk, to the entertainment/ onboard activities, and you can never forget your room attendants. This is by far my favorite cruise to date.

Being my favorite cruise ship to date, the NCL Getaway is simply pure bliss. As of 8/17, the Getaway is the 9th largest ship on the sea and features stellar amenities. Built in 2014, it’s easy to tell since all of the amenities feel brand new and barely touched. At their Aqua Park, I could not get enough of the thrilling drop slides as I raced my friends and family to the finish line. The rope course on board was a challenging yet fun experience that you and your family will never forget. The dining on board was second to none. While the ship does feature some restaurants that you will need to pay out of pocket for, they are well worth it. If you don’t want to spend that little extra, you are still going to experience fantastic food with some of the most attentive staff that I have ever had. Going above and beyond with every aspect of the ship, the NCL Getaway is perfect for your entire party.

Norwegian Epic

Norwegian Epic is a Norwegian cruise ship built under STX Europe shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. When built it was the third largest cruise ship in the world. Weighing in at 155,873 tons with a passenger size of 4,100 and total crew of 1,724. I personally traveled on the Western Caribbean, it also goes to the Eastern, Southern, Spain, Mediterranean, and repositionings.

When comparing the two, the NCL Epic just falls shy when compared to the Getaway. The design of the Epic is where I have issues with the boat. Inside of your room, the shower is separate from the toilet as well as open to the whole room, so if someone is showering, anyone in the room will have a clear view. The layout of the walkways also seemed a little cumbersome. Having to go to certain floors just to get to other points on the boat made walking around the ship a little frustrating. As far as the amenities, I had a blast on the boat. The toilet bowl water slide was the highlight of the on-deck experiences. What sets this boat apart from the Getaway is the entertainment shows. Previously performing on the boat, the Blue Man Group use to be a staple on the boat. Nowadays, Cirque Dreams lights up the stage with mesmerizing performances. While the ship does feature some restaurants that you will need to pay out of pocket for, they are well worth it. If you don’t want to spend that little extra, you are still going to experience fantastic food. As great boat for family, the NCL Epic is just that…EPIC!
